sound

today jackie and i mesured the power frequency on the computer. we put wire attached to a pencil on the end of baterys and measurd the frequency for 4 winds. it was really interesting to see how the power fluctuated. te wire on the the battery got really really hot. it was cool. we never figured out how to make a speaker. it was really complicated

body force

today we learned about excersize in space. first took our height and weight and then we measured our heart weight. ten i had to run around for 2 minuets and then i took my heart rate. in space u always ave to make sure you excersize so your not fat and weak back on earth

creating craters

today i worked with kimmy to creat craters by dropping a golf ball from a certain number of inches into a pan of flour. it was really cool and we discovered that the higher your ball was dropped from teh more it sped up, therefore causing a bigger reaction/crater. it was pretty fun but very messy. we had to do three tries on each thing to make sure there was no human error. after we finished measuring things we dropped from different heights such as 36 inches and that made the deepest crater. dropping from 5 inches made a very shallow and low impact crater.

magnets

today we did a magnetic lab. we were supposed to place the magents about 2.5 inches away and then drop a ball so they would collide and another ball wuld fly off the end. sort of like an abicus. It was really hard to disconnect the magnets because they were stuck together so tightly. e never actually got to see the end result becuse the magnets were crazy stong and we couldnt get them apart! but it was really fun and i cant wait to see another group do it. it seems like an interstgin reactio

mini culmination

today i made a basket to go ontop of ur robot to catch the parashoot. It was really fun to make and it fits ontop of our robtot. Anja also finally got a robot to work. she was very very very VERYYYY happy. i also made a basket for my fellwo classmate em because her group didnt make her one. our group works very well together. Today we accomplished alot of things. it was really dun to have amajor breakthough the robots finally they wored. we are happy. Were doing a run through first thing tomorw.

robots

today we tried to program a robot to follow a the back line and move away from the light and go in a loop. it workd for a little while and then it got off trrack and went all over the place. its not as hard as it seems and its fun to program songs into the robot. its really hard to ake sure it stays on track though

launch pad

today clara and I were partners, we had to build a launching pad for the spaceship aka a water bottle. we have to build a structure that was light enough not to wighed down and strong enough to hold the force of 3 launches. clara and I decided to go with a triangel shape, and it held up well and passed all the tests. we realized that by making somehting not hollow it would withstand better. we also needed a whole lot of glue! we then decided if we could make something even lghted than the popcicle stick one by using skewers on teh same deisghn. the skewers also worked and they were 10 grams lighter than the first one

building report

today we had to tell eachothe rhow to build lego robots using skype. lilly wasnt very god at giving directions so me lego robot was very messed up. gabby built hers perfectly though. it took a long time and was much harder than i thought. I think this will relate to mission to mars because we wil probobly have to be communicating to eachother about what to do/program or build hen in the pods or something. it was really hard, and im not good at building.

motion detector blog

today we learned about motion detectors and graphing motion. I learned that when you speed up towards the motion detector the graph line goes down and if you move backwards it goes up. It is really hard to move and go backwards without making the graph line go crazy, you have to move really smoothly and at the same rate, and that is almost imposible. When you run faster towards or away from the detector the velocity for time is kind of like mile per hour, the faster you go, the more the graph line moves up. when you are slow the line goes slowely up, going up slower per second then when you move faster.

samama is moving to the moon

the sport i am playing on the moon is soccer. since there is less gravity on the moon than on earth, an less stuff pushing you so you would go alot faster. And when you kicked the ball it would go faster because theres no air puhing on it. and it would stay in the air longer because of not as much gravity pulling you down. Also becuase of nothing stopping the ball it would go also further because it has nothing it has to puch throuh so it would go alot faster. Also the goalie could jump alot higher because of less gravity. It would take much less muscle mass to move your self and the ball. Therefore you and the ball would both go faster.

Lauching to the moon

today we tried to get a balloon carrying objects to release air connected to a straw on a string. The objective was to make it hit the top of the wall. Our group decided to put some of the small objects in th balloons, add some open balloons and see if they would carry everything to the top. This did not work and balloon actually went backwards. We then tried another one without anything, and it made it almost to the top, and the third time it actually did make it to the top, with just a balloon and nothing inside of it. We tried to do this a couple more times, but sucked at it and it went backwards again and one time we forgot to tape it and it flew around the room.

complex systems for robots

today, we tried to move a "rock" across "mars" into a designated spot using the lego robots. we programmed them to go forard for about 4 secods and then turn, it took a long time to get it even close to the area we were supposed to be, but fit was hard, finally we got about an inch away from it. It was really col to see how we could actuall contorl the robots to do really cool things. it was hard, but once we got the hang of it, it was pretty easy. i never realozed how mucha robot could do, play music, move objets, turn, reverse, pick stuff up.....

bernoullis law

For my bernoullis law assighnment, I though about when you use high air pressure, such as a hairdryer, directed at a shallow body of water, the water or liquid moves to a low pressure area, causing the water to part and spread out to the sides.
